When water is naturally in balance, four important things happen.

  1. Small rainfall volumes accumulate on the surface of vegetation and the ground where it evaporates and returns to the atmosphere.
  2. The right amount of water runs slowly into our creeks and streams by surface and interflow systems.
  3. Our aquifers are replenished to meet their natural ecosystem needs plus to account for what we’ve taken.
  4. There is enough water flowing throughout the soil to meet some fundamental needs including soil moisture and interflow to creeks. When water is out of balance, it moves too fast to replenish anything, and causes significant damage wherever it flows.
